05-15-11 Little Things by Rev. Buck Day

The word “Lent” comes from the Germanic word for springtime and can be viewed as a spiritual spring cleaning; a time for taking spiritual inventory and then cleaning out those things which hinder our corporate and personal relationships with Jesus Christ and our service to Him. The season of Lent focuses around the idea of repentance. Thus, many people focus on spiritual disciplines during Lent: fasting, confession, reconciliation, forgiveness and prayer, just to name a few. During the season of Lent, in worship we will focus on the disciplines that draw us closer to God and prepare us to serve our world in Christ’s name.

Passing on the faith to the next generation: These sermons by Pastor Buck Day declare that a child’s relationship with God is the most critical thing they can have in this world. Fight for your children’s hearts—relationally, in the context of love. Our job—parents and church—is to ensure that God is at the top of all our children’s loyalties. If we are concerned with who our children are becoming, we must start with who we are becoming. How are our children seeing that our faith is real and intersects with our everyday life?
