Following Christ

These are transcripts of some of the sermons preached by our pastors that teach practical ways to live daily life as followers of Christ.

Trusting God in hard times:  What does it mean to have faith in God? Does God know what I’m going through? Is he trustworthy? How can I live faithfully in the hard times in life?
“The Courage of a Warrior & the Heart of a Child”
by Rev. Dr. Christopher Carlson

Affirming the essentials: These are sermons based on The Apostles’ Creed.
We don’t understand everything God does, or his timing. But what we do know is God himself. And in the end, that is enough.
“The Father Almighty”
by Rev. Dr. Christopher Carlson
The cross is necessary, and the cross is about love. That’s really the whole message. He died in our place, he took the judgment we deserve, and he did so out of pure, unadulterated love. It’s what the cross is all about. It’s the heart of Christianity
“Who Was Conceived by the Holy Spirit, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate”
by Rev. Dr. Christopher Carlson
Jesus is the one who is ruling. The decisive victory won by our God was on the cross. What does that mean to you and me? It means you should never lose hope. You are a child of the King! Jesus is Lord and he will always be Lord. He’s in charge of everything and the nations are a drop in the bucket to our God.
“He Ascended into Heaven and Sitteth on the Right Hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He Shall Come to Judge the Quick and the Dead”
by Rev. Dr. Christopher Carlson
The Holy Spirit is everywhere throughout Scripture, but sometimes he seems to be missing from our lives. What is his role? How can he be a more real part of our daily living?

Memorizing Scripture: The Psalmist says we are to “hide God’s Word in our heart.” The Scriptures I’ve chosen are foundational to who we are in Christ and will lay a foundation to bear fruit in our lives and then bear fruit in our church, as well.
Because you are a new creation in Christ, your life with all its old brokenness is gone. You are new. What kind of spiritual disciplines can help us? A spiritual discipline is any activity that makes us feel more fully alive and more fully surrendered to Christ. As you submit and surrender to Christ, you will find freedom and victory.
“Scripture Worth Memorizing—2 Corinthians 5:17”
by Rev. William “Buck” Day
If we are unmindful of God’s mercies, or just haven’t thought about it, or are unappreciative, our conduct will reflect that. Offering our bodies, our minds, and our spirits to God is our only “reasonable response” to the gift of the mercies we have received from him.
“Scripture Worth Memorizing—Romans 12:1”
by Rev. William “Buck” Day
Scripture is the source of the knowledge needed for a spiritual life. How do we gain that knowledge and then go deeper? How does God use Scripture to change us and move us closer to him?
“Scripture Worth Memorizing—2 Timothy 3:16”
by Rev. William “Buck” Day

Living God’s priorities: Although we each have a unique purpose in God’s plan, we also share one common purpose. How can our love for God overflow into the priorities we set in our lives?
“The Wisdom of Firsts”
by Rev. Dr. Christopher Carlson

Passing on the faith to the next generation: A child’s relationship with God is the most critical thing they can have in this world. Fight for your children’s hearts—relationally, in the context of love. Our job—parents and church—is to ensure that God is at the top of all our children’s loyalties.
“Faith for the Generations,” part 1
by Rev. William “Buck” Day
If we are concerned with who our children are becoming, we must start with who we are becoming. How are our children seeing that our faith is real and intersects with our everyday life?
“Faith for the Generations,” part 2
by Rev. William “Buck” Day

Loving God: God loves us too much to leave us unchanged. By his grace he restores us and calls us to serve him.
“Are You His Friend?”
by Rev. Dr. Christopher Carlson

Being the Church:  How important is the Church? How can we embrace the role God gives all of Christ’s followers in accomplishing his purpose in the world? Does my little contribution matter?
“No ‘Plan B’”
by Rev. William “Buck” Day

Choosing sides: We all must choose sides continually. Peter put himself in a position to fail because he made the choice to follow Jesus and to love Jesus. Is Christ so real in our lives that people can tell Jesus is with us?
“Which Side Are You On?”
by Rev. Dr. Christopher Carlson

Viewing Money: Jesus talked about money more than any other topic because he knows it is a powerful thing. It wants our hearts. It wants to control us.
“A Christ Follower’s View of Money”
by Rev. William “Buck” Day

Bringing good news:  How can we bring the good news of Christ to our world in a way that helps people to receive it? What steps are involved in being Christ’s witnesses?
