Feed My Starving Children

Feed My Starving Children is a Christian nonprofit organization committed to “Feeding God’s starving children hungry in body and spirit.” Feed My Starving Children worked with food scientists from Cargill and General Mills to develop a food product best-suited to nourish starving children. Volunteers form small assembly lines to scoop measured amounts of four types of ingredients (rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a vegetarian-based chicken flavoring with a vitamins and minerals) into plastic bags. They also heat-seal the bags,  pack the bags into boxes, and prepare pallets of boxes for shipment. Join us as we pack meals every month for children around the world. Children (3rd grade and above) as well as adults enjoy participating, so it is a great family service activity. It’s fun, you’re doing something significant, and you will get to know others as you serve. Your gift of one session with others is usually enough to feed 30 children for ONE YEAR, at no cost to you except your time. Ordinarily our church provides 25 people to work at the Chanhassen location from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month. Sign up in the Information hallway and make a difference! You can contact Pastor Buck Day for more info.

At Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), 94% of all donations go directly toward the food program. FMSC purchases all of the food ingredients. Each bag of food is packed by volunteers, contains six highly-nutritious meals, and costs about $1.15 to produce (19 cents per meal). FMSC meals are distributed in nearly 70 countries through missionary partnerships at orphanages, schools, clinics, refugee camps and malnourishment centers. The missionary partners are not charged for the food, but pay the cost for the food to be shipped to them.

In 2009, more than 416,000 volunteers worked with Feed My Starving Children to package OVER 96 MILLION MEALS for children around the world! For 2010, the goal is 127 MILLION MEALS!
