1. An inquiry about interest in a shared transportation venture from senior living centers to worship was received.
With a new senior citizens living center opening soon in Glen Lake, the congregations of Bethlehem Lutheran and All Saints Lutheran have inquired about Faith Church’s possible interest in a joint venture with them in providing transportation in a van equipped with a wheelchair lift to and from Sunday worship at all three churches from several senior living centers. The cost is projected to be $60 per week per church. On initial consideration, the cost seems expensive for the number of people who would be transported since most seniors who would want to come to Faith probably would not need that specialized transportation. Our Deacons are currently working on providing transportation to worship for seniors who request it and who are able to travel safely in standard vehicles. We will stay informed of developments, but at this point our participation in the joint venture does not seem probable.
2. Young adult ministry exploration proposal was approved.
The session received a letter from Bill Slack requesting the session’s support for a group he has been meeting with that would like to explore creation of a new ministry to young adults centered at Faith Church. The 18 people listed on the letter as being interested include Kevin Boyle, our Youth MInistry Associate. The group is not requesting resources or staff time other than use of Faith Church facilities and would not interfere with or limit Faith Church’s Youth Ministries programming. The group wishes to begin by building a core community of people, then possibly expand to create a worship service. Accountability to session would be through the direct participation of Kevin with general oversight by Pastor Day.
3. Planning for the Fellowship of Presbyterians, Faith Church communications, and Christmas Eve worship were discussed.
The session approved Pastor Day’s travel to participate in the next Fellowship of Presbyterians meeting, which will be held in Orlando over 3 days in January. Costs will be paid from the Personnel “contingency” line item that is already included in this year’s budget…It is planned that “Faith in Action” will become a quarterly publication. The first week’s Sunday bulletin announcements each month will include expanded information on “what’s happening this month.”…Preliminary discussion was conducted about possible times for Christmas Eve worship services this year, including whether two back-to-back identical services with participation of the choir in both would be desirable (e.g. 3:30 pm and 5:00 pm or 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm) with an additional very contemporary service at 11 pm in the sanctuary. This year Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday and Christmas Day on a Sunday. No decisions were made other than affirming that the service on Sunday, December 25 will be at 10:15 am as usual. Steve will request input from choir members regarding Christmas Eve services.
