March 22, 2011

1. The session will meet with confirmands on April 10.
On April 10, there will be a Special Session Meeting in Faith Hall at 9:00 a.m. for the purpose of meeting with the confirmands, getting acquainted with them, having discussions with them about what they have learned, hearing their stories, and receiving them into membership. The confirmands will be recognized by the congregation during the worship service on Palm Sunday, April 17.

2. The session reviewed other events scheduled for April.
On April 10, the session will meet with confirmands, as described above. Ordination and installation of new officers will be conducted during the 10:00 a.m. worship service that day. The first session of the First Communion class for third graders and their parents, taught by Pastor Day and Joanna Bachmann, will be held in the morning (with the second part of that class on Wednesday evening, April 13). The “All Things New” all-church event sponsored by Family Ministries will be the afternoon of April 10.

On Palm Sunday, April 17, there will be a Special Session Meeting at 9:45 a.m. for the purpose of receiving persons (not in the confirmation class) into membership. Confirmands will be recognized during the worship service on Palm Sunday. Steve reviewed the other special events planned for Holy Week. He distributed copies of the devotional booklet that will be used for “The Way of the Cross,” a personal experience of meditation, which will be set up in Faith Hall and will be open specified hours on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of Holy Week. People are encouraged to invite others to come, whether they are Christians or not, since many different people appreciate this experience. Steve will prepare an e-mail describing “The Way of the Cross,” which will be sent to those on the church’s e-mail list and which people would be able to forward to friends to invite them to come. The Maundy Thursday service will be like last year’s, since that was appreciated by so many.

On Easter, April 24, there will be worship services at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. A Pancake Breakfast will be served that morning as a fundraiser for the Senior High Mission Trip this summer.

3. The session is continuing work on the Renewing Faith planning process.
Pastor Day met with some people from various groups in the congregation to keep them informed of the planning that has been done so far and to invite their input. The congregation’s written responses to the three questions for use in developing a mission statement for our congregation will be distributed to the planning group on March 23 so they can be studied before the next planning meeting. Dates for future planning group meetings with our consultant were reviewed.
