1. A joint meeting with the Board of Deacons and the Session was held.
During this joint meeting, Deacons shared some key aspects of the work the Deacons are doing and there was an opportunity for Session members to ask them questions. This was followed by a time of Session members discussing what the Session has been working on and there was an opportunity for Deacons to ask questions. Betty Swanson, chair of the Nominating Committee, encouraged people to submit to her the names of people who might be considered for the next classes of Deacons and Elders to be elected at the annual meeting of the congregation.
2. The annual meeting of the congregation will be Sunday, January 29.
The annual meeting of the congregation will be held immediately following the worship service on Sunday, January 29. This is the last Sunday in January and is the usual week for the annual meeting. Although this year the Children’s Musical will be performed during worship that day, Joanna said holding the meeting after worship would not interfere. The meeting this year should be shorter than previous years (financial reports, pastor terms of call, election of Deacons and Elders) since the usual reports from committees and program areas will be moved to coincide with the fiscal year and program year, which end in June.
3. The session took membership actions based on responses to a letter which had been sent previously.
A letter was sent earlier in December to about 150 persons on the “active member” roll who have not been active participants in our congregation’s work and worship for two years. The letter explained that we miss them, we invite and encourage them to return to participation in our congregation and gave examples of upcoming events at Faith which they might like to attend. It also asked people to clarify their relationship with Faith Church. The session approved the requests of those who asked to remain as “active members” or to be listed as “other participants.” The session deleted the names of the others from the active members roll. Although the newly-revised Book of Order no longer requires sessions to keep an “inactive” roll, the session will move those deleted from the “active” roll to an inactive group. We can continue to encourage those in the inactive group to return to participation in Faith Church if they are not actively participating in another congregation.
