“Beyond Us” (Missions & Service)
“BEYOND US” is our name for serving those outside our congregation, whether they are people across the street or across the world.
Current special needs:
Welcome baskets: “Beyond Us” is collecting items to make welcome baskets for Urban Homeworks. Completed baskets are given to new residents to help build relationships with their neighbors. Stay tuned to find out when you can help put baskets together. If you are interested in getting more involved, see the sign-up sheet in the Information Hallway or talk to Cristina Earley. Items needed: baskets, shower curtains, toilet plungers, cleaning supplies (Chlorox wipes, Windex, bleach, paper towels, toilet bowl cleaner, sponge, scrub brush, Mr. Clean erasers, toilet brush), trash bags, key chains, gift card to Aldi, Target or Cub Foods. Guidelines: Each basket’s contents should have a total value of $20-$25. Each basket may include a tag indicating the small group, organization, or church that donated it.
Landscaping: Urban Homeworks is also looking for volunteers to take on landscaping projects at specific properties. Sign up at the “Beyond Us” table for more info.

“. . . Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ . . .”
(Matthew 25:37-40)

Urban Homeworks is an innovative Christian housing organization that has rehabilitated and constructed scattered, small, multi-unit and single-family housing in the Twin Cities since 1995. The combination of dignified housing, volunteer mobilization, construction training for community members and a passionate group of young professionals in the community has created a powerful model of neighborhood stabilization and richness.

The Dagoretti Corners Self-Help Group, is an amazing Christ-centered ministry founded by Rev. William and Grace Eyika in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. The Eyikas are graduates of Daystar University who have visited Faith Church. Their ministry includes a church, an elementary school, and a high school. In addition, they have an auto repair school and seamstress training program. Their focus is on changing the lives of children. Pat Mahin from our congregation visited their ministry in Nairobi. William and Grace Eyika visited Faith in the spring of 2012 so we could meet them and hear about their work first-hand. You can click HERE to read William’s blog describing their work.
